Makerspace Communities

The Visual Art Academy, an outreach program of the UAF Art Department for students aged 11-17, was recently awarded a generous grant from UAF Center ICE and the Office of Naval Research to expand a culture of innovation and entrepreneurialism throughout the University of Alaska.

This Digital Makerspace VAA course is a multifaceted project that combines numerous studio skills, including Sculpture, Metalsmithing, 3D Design, Drawing, Painting, and Computer Imaging. Students are tasked with creating projects that push the boundaries between art and science, blur the lines between different areas of study, and allow for greater student-led interdisciplinary exploration.

The Digital Makerspace course is led by Naomi Hutchquist and Chaweinta Hale.

Learning Inside Out Network

The Learning Inside Outside Network is a community-based Alaska network. Lions are people who collaborate to increase access to transformative education opportunities by sustaining areas for collaboration inside and out, supporting ad-hoc community wellness projects, and advocating for political change across the state of Alaska.
